Selecting Tubers for Shipping
Every tuber is checked for overall health multiple times during storage and again when packaged. The eyes will be marked for you with an arrow. Tubers will have one or more of the following types of eyes:
Variety Labels
All tubers are stamped with an abbreviated variety name. An ID card is attached to each tuber package. And a photo of the tubers you ordered will be included with every order.
Packaging
We are diligent and very careful when putting together your order. Please open your package and inspect your tubers immediately. If your order is incorrect (missing or wrong varieties), you must contact us within two (2)days of delivery. We require a photo of the delivered tubers to compare to our packaging photo. If in error, we will correct the order by sending out replacements immediately. All sales are final after this 2 day period.
Shipping
Processing Orders
When we print the shipping label, you will be emailed a tracking number for your order. To increase efficiency, we may print multiple, if not all, shipping labels on the same day. However, it may take us days to get your order put together. So, if you don’t see your order moving along, it simply means it’s still being packaged. We do not substitute variety. In the event of "OUT OF STOCK" or the unfortunate "CROP FAILURE", a refund will be automatically issued. Orders are packaged in the order they were received.
Guarantee
There are a few things that will void our guarantee. Our policy is limited to the purchase price of the tubers only. Shipping costs are nonrefundable. Deadline for tuber viability is 2 days after receipt - We don’t send out tubers without eyes. Deadline for variety concerns expires on August 15th.
If you are not satisfied with your order, returns are required with our labelled tubers in the original packaging for a "no-questions-asked" guaranteed refund. The package must be returned within 10 days of delivery.
Safe Planting
Dahlias are vulnerable when sprouting from tubers in the Spring. Any tuber that is planted outdoors in garden soil or in a pot before the tuber has broken dormancy and produced an eye or sprout, cannot be guaranteed. This is simply because there are too many factors that can affect the tuber.
Customer Conduct Policy
We value respectful and constructive communication with our customers. To ensure a positive experience for everyone, we kindly ask that all feedback or concerns be made directly to us. We are dedicated to resolving issues promptly and fairly. Please note that we reserve the right to refuse service, cancel orders, or deny guarantees if a customer engages in disrespectful behavior.
In the past year ,folks started feeling they can and should handle customer service issues publicly rather than privately. We walk away from these people. If you are impatient and choose to turn to social media to voice your opinion with concerns/comments/reviews no refund will be offered. Period.
If you choose to post on social media in a way that would damage a reputation to any grower/farmer your conduct will be shared with other sellers. In short, if we see you acting rudely to ANY dahlia seller anywhere we will decline your offer to purchase our dahlia tubers.
Variety Concerns
If your dahlia grows into a beautiful plant, then blooms with a flower that you did not order, please reach out to us and we’ll help you ID it. For replacements, we require proper photos/video of our logo’d tuber and the bloom by August 15. We trust our dahlia friends but do require verification that the tuber has our stamp. The credit will be issued for a replacement of your choice.
How We Label
Plant labels can easily get misplaced. We are diligent in planting and tracking. Our system is so successful we plan to plant by color family this year rather than alphabetically. This is our system.
1. We dig one variety at a time and process them the same day.
2. As we divide our clumps, we stamp the ID on each tuber prior to storing.
3. We plant our farm stamped tubers with a labeled ID tag around the neck in addition to markings on the tuber.
4. While planting, we place the labeled stake used in pre sprouting at ground level that matches the underground ID. This also helps when the “as planted” spreadsheet is confirmed.
5. When the plant blooms confirming the variety the stem is labeled with flagging tape.
6. We plant in a predictable order and create a spreadsheet with each plant recorded. Planning the planting order is one of our favorite tasks.
7. The final step is confirming the flagging tape with the tuber tag at digging. If it does not match it is composted.
We do not leave it to “the odds are it’s …” mentality - those not confirmed are composted. Our identifying system is not fool proof but it works!
About Us
Hi there, I’m Jen, the dreamer, the chooser of beautiful blooms to grow, a weed natzi and sharer of quiet beauty here at Grandflower Farm. Alongside my hubby Robin, we built our flower farm in 2018/19 and started the next chapter in our story. Robin still owns/runs a 90 year old, 4th generation, plumbing/heating company. At home he handles all of the tractor work and landscaping needs, he loves to build anything I dream up, and of course he’s the brains behind our irrigation/fertigation systems. I’ve been a real estate broker for 30 years (15 as a RE/MAX franchise owner) following a 15 year stint in education. I’m learning new things like photography (beyond autofocus) and planning for success with proactive not reactive systems to grow healthy flowers to share. My advice to you, regardless of your age - If you can imagine it, and have the desire to be a part of something new and get the chance to live that dream - Jump! Just do it!

Selecting Tubers for Shipping
Every tuber is checked for overall health multiple times during storage and again when packaged. The eyes will be marked for you with an arrow. Tubers will have one or more of the following types of eyes:
- Dormant eyes: these are still asleep and look like a crack, pimple or blemish on the crown. They will wake up given the right care.
- Awake eyes: these are beginning to open and resemble a small pearl. Eyes can be white, green, pink, purple or red.
- Sprouted eyes: a full sprout developing out of an eye. Sprouts can be white, green, pink, red or purple.

- Rodents will nibble at tubers, slugs and snails can eat the eyes as they emerge or decimate young plants, even cats and dogs can accidentally dig them up.
- Environmental factors such as weather, drainage, light and irrigation also have to be considered when selecting a time and a location to plant their dahlias.
- We always recommend that all tubers are started indoors so that eyes/sprouts are visible before planting out.
- As long as the tuber has a viable eye, it's up to you not to kill it.
- Customers with multiple varieties will also learn that different varieties sprout at different speeds and patience is required with some more than others.
